Abstract

La púrpura trombocitopénica inmune (PTI) es una enfermedad autoinmune adquirida que se caracteriza por la producción de anticuerpos antiplaquetarios que generan destrucción acelerada de plaquetas y supresión o producción inadecuada por compromiso directo de los megacariocitos, acompañándose de un alto riesgo de sangrado severo.

Afecta a ambos sexos (predominio mujeres en edad reproductiva), en todas las edades (aumenta con la edad), una incidencia de 3,3/100.000 adultos por año y se caracteriza por un número de plaquetas menor a 100.000/mm3 en ausencia de otras causas o desórdenes asociados a plaquetopenia (trombocitopenia inducida por heparina, coagulación intravascular diseminada, déficit de vitamina B9/B12, secuestro esplénico, hipertensión portal, mielodisplasia, trombocitopenia congénita, HIV/HVC/EVB/CMV, lupus eritematoso, Sjögren, SAF.
